Addressing the Future

The information on this web site pertains to fabric structures in the round. Although some of it relates to wide span tensile fabric structures in use for decades, the particular dynamics of curvilinear surfaces in fabric shells have been my primary focus, the investigation unprecedented. The principles detected so far indicate that tension can be employed as a shape-giving force to great advantage, and the methods developed are presented in such detail to pass on what worked and why, so that those eager to work with this new vocabulary of forms would not have to start from scratch.

I started working with fabric membranes in 1970. Though my experience is limited to interior installations, when I noticed that spaces defined by curved surfaces were best experienced on the move, I readily envisioned them on a larger scale, adaptable to shelter. Needless to say, the approach is futuristic, the field wide open to innovation. Have fun!
