The Spectral Passage 1975

A spectral passage was installed at the M.H.DeYoung Memorial Museum in San Francisco in conjunction with "The Rainbow Show." The gallery was 78'x44'x18' high. Color was introduced with preshaped neon tubing laid on the floor next to the raised & carpeted plywood platforms. The bottom edges of each shape were stapled to runners that were part of the platform, and the tops were attached either to suspended frames fixed at points in the ceiling & raised by ropes on pulleys, or to ropes that hooked directly to loops in the fabric. Raised walks between the individual shapes were covered with fabric tunnels that were attached to each shape by the rope method (see finishes). The installation took seven people six days from start to finish.
