Woodstock 1972

Wiz Bang Quick City #2

The event was organized by Works, a group of architects, designers, and educators. The idea was to build a structure in 24 hours and live in it for the duration of the event (10 days). 15 Schools of Architecture and Design participated. The following shelter was built with students of The School of Visual Arts in NYC where the artist was teaching at the time, and sponsored by a grant from The Architectural League of New York and The National Rubber Co. who gave 40 gal. of liquid vinyl to waterproof the fabric (It did not work--we had no adequate means of application).

The fabric brought to site was one panel 12'x40' long. The upper edge of the panel was stapled to 2x1 furring strips which were then raised & tied to branches, and the bottom edge was fastened to stakes, then stitched to a rope stretched between the stakes. The two side edges were sewn together by hand on location.
